Letter From Our Readers

The Good News about Jerusalem

I was pleasantly surprised to see The Good News focus on Jerusalem. How wonderful! Jeremiah says for us to "let Jerusalem come into your minds" (Jeremiah 51:50). You have helped us to remember Jerusalem and we pray that she fulfills her awesome potential.

It was fantastic to see God's prophecies about Jerusalem announced in the latest Good News article, followed up by "Israel's Amazing Story."

"Could Jesus Be Elected President?"

Could Jesus be elected president? Certainly. Though I don't question the author's right to presume otherwise, I do question some of the other presumptions that were asserted. That His message appears to be lost on today's culture is more likely a reflection of today's messengers than on our response to it. Those elected to the office of president of our nation are charged to serve the Constitution, not rewrite it. What the author has posed is not a run for the presidency, but an overthrow of our current system followed by the installation of a theocracy.

Americans want freedom from religion. If the option to choose any, all or none is not afforded, the freedom itself is an illusion. Both the integrity of our national principles and the central tenet of Christianity require a free choice be afforded to each individual. However steadfast any one of us may be that our beliefs are the truth, if we are not vigilant in guarding our neighbor's right to freely arrive at theirs, our claim of our religious freedom is a fraud.

The answer to the dilemma is in the timing. The concluding part of the article clearly showed that Jesus Christ will be ruling the world from Jerusalem in the age to come. But for the present His Kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36)—and not surprisingly His gospel message has largely been rejected, especially by the ruling intelligentsia.

Remember that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The author of the article clearly showed that Christ's enduring message is incompatible with the conduct of today's "present evil world" (Galatians 1:4, King James Version.) Hence the desperate need for His second coming to usher in the rule of the Kingdom of God.

The good news is that after a horrendous period of worldwide cataclysm, this troubled nation will finally discover true freedom—extraordinary peace, real security, overflowing prosperity and profound happiness. To see how this will happen, please request our free booklet The Gospel of the Kingdom.

"How Significant Is the Race for the White House?"

I received The Good News today, was turning the pages and came to "How Significant Is the Race for the White House?" It was the first article I read. I was glad to see you reminding people that our leaders need our prayers. If ever a president has needed our prayers, ours does. Soon honest, decent men will not seek office with all of the pressures they have to go through.

Is Christmas Christian?

When I was a small child my uncles would encourage me to drop pennies in a small homemade savings box. These little savings were purposely made for the "great and divine" festive season of Christmas. Having been brought up in a Christian Protestant family, I was taught to observe Dec. 25 with resolute holiness since it was Christ's birthday.

However, the truth dawned on me just recently when I received your booklet Holidays or Holy Days: Does It Matter Which Days We Keep? This educational booklet opened my eyes and I now know why Dec. 25 is in fact insignificant in a Christian's life.

"Christian Values Under Attack: Will Yours Survive the College Challenge?"

Thanks for your article "Christian Values Under Attack." I've never gone to college. In fact, I never completed high school. I did work for a while at a prominent university. It just dawned on me as I was reading your article that this present world is filled with educators teaching anti-Christian philosophies and is rampant with drugs, alcohol abuse and a passion for sexual immorality. These challenges to college students that you presented in this particular article and their solutions can be applied to our everyday lives.

Taking the Bible literally

You must be congratulated for your July-August issue for the well-researched articles about the sanctity and preservation of the Holy Bible. It is unfortunate indeed that most people do not now regard the Holy Bible as authoritative in its teachings and disregard the messages in its pages, and yet most profess to be Christians. May this issue open the eyes of those who are blinded by Satan, the great deceiver. Enclosed please find my donation for your mission here on earth.

Coping successfully with grief

Thank you so much for all your free literature and for personally answering my letter. Finally I'm understanding the Bible and am getting to know Jesus Christ on a personal level. My life is changing for the better. I have a long way to go, but I have purpose in my life.

I know my son is resting in peace and I will see him again. Now I smile when I talk about him. I have been lifted out of depression. Our glorious Almighty God certainly does answer our prayers. After the burial of my son I prayed over and over again for the truth to be revealed to me. I came across your literature by accident. (I should say I believe it was God who arranged it.) At a yard sale was a box of books, and one of your booklets was in the box with them. After reading it I wrote to you. Your literature and the Bible have become my daily reading and inspiration.
