“A wise, mature person is known for his understanding. The more pleasant his words, the more persuasive he is” (Proverbs 16:21, GNB).

This proverb reveals it is not enough to have understanding, but equally important is how to explain what you know in a tactful way. It is the Old Testament version of Colossians 4:6, “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

Brutal honesty is sometimes seen as a virtue, but if honesty is used as a weapon to hurt others, then it isn't being used properly. Honest words spoken with kindness assure a receptive audience, which leads to real improvement.
